N.L. environmental advocacy group seeks 'definitive language' in a law to ban importing garbage to the province. PDF
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Centre for Long-term Environmental Action Newfoundland and Labrador (CLEANNL) is urging the provincial government to legislate a ban on importing foreign garbage.
Barry Fordham, chairperson of CLEANNL’s working group on imported waste, said the group had a meeting with Environment and Climate Change Minister Bernard Davis about the issue in February. Fordham said Davis indicated that neither he nor the government had any appetite for the importation of garbage, something Fordham said was “music to our ears.”
